Toxic Metals on Ayurvedic Products Purchased Online

According to Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published on August 27th, researchers at Boston University School of Medicine found that one fifth of Ayurvedic medicines purchased online contain lead, mercury or arsenic. It is found in both US manufactured and Indian manuactured ayurvedic products.

The researchers identified 25 websites that feature 673 ayurvedic medicines, then randomly selected and purchased 193 products made by 37 differents manufacturers. From the analyses it is found that overall 20.7% of those medicines contained lead, mercury, and/or arsenic. Both Indian and US manufacturedproduts were equally likely to contain toxic metals.
