Is Natural And Organic Food Better For You?

Natural and organic food seems to be more and more in the mainstream.  Everyday people are trying to live greener, healthier lives and buying food that follows those principals seems to be more common than niche these days.  It used to be that only a select few “Granola” types would strive to eat natural and organic food. As more knowledge is disseminated about the potentials risks of pesticide and processed foods, eating better is becoming the norm. As more people are aware of the health benefits of following guidelines about what they should eat, the food companies are realizing that they have to be accountable for what they present to their customers.

Choosing natural food over processed foods is recommended by many dietitians and experts due to the associated health benefits. Anyone whose diet consists mainly of processed and fast foods will suffer dire health consequences.   Natural food also makes you feel more energetic. Eating junk food on a regular basis drains you of energy and gives you high caloric intake with low vitamin and nutrient value.

Why Eat Natural And Organic Food?

Organic food dictates the absence of harmful chemicals and pesticides in the food as well as more natural practices of farming meat and processing non-perishable food.  The absence of preservatives and artificial ingredients in natural and organic food make it healthier and advisable to anyone who has health problems.

You are what you eat, as the old saying goes and people who are unhealthy or morbidly obese find that altering their diet and lifestyle to eating natural and organic foods as well as exercising regularly makes a dramatic difference in their quality of life, health and energy levels.

Is It More Expensive To Eat Natural And Organic Food?

While organic products may be more expensive than traditional products like meat, dairy and produce, eating natural foods are much less expensive than processed or convenience foods.  For a few dollars, you can have a full grocery bag of fruits and vegetables whereas canned vegetables or unhealthy fast food will cost considerably more to fill the same grocery bag.
As natural and organic food become more widely available, the price gap between regular and organic is also becoming narrower. It’s also easier than ever to get natural and organic food.  Many chain stores have an organics section, many specialty stores are popping up in major areas and the Internet has a wide array of options for buying these types of products online.

I have been eating organig food for a few years now and I find that in addition to the health benefits, it tastes so much better! I haven’t particularly found it to be a lot more expensive luckily but that is because I am careful to use all my veg etc. by planning meals over a few days to minimise waste.
