Acne Problems on Babies and Young People

If your newborn baby or infant breaks out with a case of acne, no need to panic! Actually it’s quite normal. In most cases the acne will disappear all by itself and there’s rarely a need on using some medications or call your doctor.

Babies, especially the newborns, often get a kind of acne bumps that usually are caused by natural skin oil becoming trapped in hair follicles. This acne mostly found on the cheeks, however it’s not uncommon if babies have acne on their forehead or chin as well.

You can continue to bathe your baby as usual using a clean and soft washcloth and normal baby soap as long as it is hypoallergenic. Otherwise, switch the baby soap brands to something that is hypoallergenic.

If the condition appears to worsen or it doesn’t clear up within a few weeks, perhaps you need to ask your doctor for advises.

Adolescent and Teen Acne Issues

While the occasional blemish can come out at any age, a persistent acne condition usually will begin at about the same time when your child enters their puberty.

Forget those old tales about eating too many chocolate or oily foods will cause acne. Adolescent and teen acne are simply just a result from a natural increase in their body oil that becomes trapped in pores. And no, it’s not caused by failure to wash the face enough either. On the other hand, washing the skin too much actually may irritate the skin, clog the pores, and cause more acne.

Prevention and Treatment for You Child Acne

While prevention may not be possible, due to the fact that this is a natural condition, you can always reduce the appearance of your child’s acne by telling them to gently wash twice a day using warm water, a soft facecloth and a mild hypoallergenic soap.

If your daughter starts using makeup, tell and help her to choose cosmetics that are labelled ‘non-comedogenic’ because they have been specially formulated not to cause acne. And tell her to always remove her makeup before she is going to bed. Make sure your child understand that by ‘popping’ their acne will only makes things worse.

Most acne conditions give a good respond to over-the-counter products with benzol peroxide contain. This ingredient can be found in a number of different lotions and cream from several brands. Make sure to compare store brands with national brands to save yourself some money. If you find the similar ingredients and they are present in the same levels, simply go for the cheaper one.

The available benzol peroxide percentages are varies among different brands. Choose a product that contain the highest concentration possible, but always make sure to test a dab of it on an inconspicuous part of your child’s body to check if there are any bad reaction on the skin.

If within 4-6 weeks after treatment begins you do not find a good progress, take your child to the doctor for any exams and treatment advises. You don’t need to straight go to a dermatologist unless it is suggested by your doctor.

There is no exact time for acne to come to your children. Just prepare yourself to be able to provide the needed emotional support for your child to help him or her through any social stigma that will come with the acne appearances. You need to understand that it’s a lot bigger deal to them than it is to us.
